In this section we are answering Frequently Asked Questions about ISBEP Proceedings and AIBEP Membership, just scroll down, please:

Questions about proceedings of International Symposium of Beamed Energy Propulsion (ISBEP)

Q1: Who is the publisher and what is the format of ISBEP Proceedings?

A: This is a hardcover 6"x9" book published by American Institute of Physics (AIP) in AIP Conference Proceedings.  The front cover of the book is shown here

Q2: Where can I acquire the book(s) of ISBEP Proceedings?

A: You can purchase any book of ISBEP Proceedings here, at our website.  Just go to the AIBEP Bookstore, fill the corresponding order form and fax or e-mail it to us.  You will receive the book(s) within 1-3 weeks (depends on your address).

Q3: I do not see an option for express delivery of ISBEP Proceedings in the order form.  I need this book asap, what can be done?

A: Please, contact us and we will arrange for any acceptable form of express delivery to you.

Q4a: I just found out about this conference (ISBEP) and I would like to get myself familiar with the field of beamed-energy propulsion.  Which book of ISBEP Proceedings would you recommend for a start?

A: Proceedings of ISBEP 1 will be the best choice.  This book contains a great collection of review papers, covering practically all advancement in the field starting from AVCO Everett Labs research from early seventies to the majority of most recent studies.  It also contains the largest collection of reviews on BEP research conducted outside US.

Q4b: What about the rest of proceedings?  What would be the second choice?

A: Each book of ISBEP Proceedings has its unique content which is not superseded by later issues.  Please, take a look at the contents for each book at AIBEP Bookstore and see it for yourself.  Beamed Energy Propulsion is a broad field of studies with potential applications in Astronautics, Aeronautics and even in Micronautics (navigation in micro-space).  Some topics of interest are listed in our AIBEP Bookstore site.  However, if you do not have a strong preference on some particular subject, then the latest proceedings should be your second choice.  If you are not sure: just ask us, this is what we are here for.

Q5: Is the volume of the ISBEP Proceedings indexed by ISI-Thomson society?

Asked by Prof. Dr. Ing. Radu Rugescu, University Politehnica Bucharest, Romania / Fulbright, Texas A&M University, USA

A: AIP Conference Proceedings are not covered in Web of Science, as any other proceedings are not covered there as well.  This database is restricted to journals only.  Thompson Science (formerly ISO) has another product for conference proceedings: ISI® Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings. AIP is fully covered by ISTP.  AIP Proceedings are included in CrossRef.  All abstracts are indexed by Google.  AIP proceedings are covered by SPIN database.

Questions about membership in American Institute of Beamed Energy Propulsion

Q1: Who can be a member of AIBEP?

A: Practically any person sharing our interests and paying membership dues.  The details can be found in Bylaws, Article 5. ("Associate" is the term used in the Bylaws for AIBEP members).

Q2: I am not US Citizen, can I still be a member of AIBEP?  If yes, what will be the difference?

A: Yes, you can.  There will be no difference as long as your membership with all benefits and obligations which it entails is in agreement with the provisions of AIBEP Articles of Incorporation, AIBEP Bylaws, State of Alabama and U.S. federal laws and regulations.  Obviously, some difference may come from the laws and regulations of your country of citizenship.  For example, if you do not reside in US, tax deduction of your fees and contributions to AIBEP will depend on the tax policies of your country of citizenship and/or residence.

Q3: What classes of members AIBEP has?

A: We have the following classes: Associate member, Retiree, Student, Lifetime members and Fellows.  We also have Institutional associates. The details can be found in Bylaws, Article 5.

Q4: What are dues for AIBEP membership?

A: Associate members pay $85, Retiree and Student associates pay $25 annually, Lifetime members pay $980 (for details on partial payment for Lifetime membership, please, see the Application form).  Membership dues of Fellows depend on their status upon election.

Q5: Are AIBEP membership fees tax-deductible?

A: Yes, since AIBEP is 501(c)(3) IRC Public Charity, our membership fees and all material contributions are 100% tax deductible.  If you have not received a receipt confirming your contribution, please contact us at secretary@aibep.org.  See AIBEP News April 11, 2008 for further details.

Q6: What are the privileges of AIBEP member?

A: The main privilege is an opportunity to serve the cause of beamed energy propulsion, as stated in the main objective of AIBEP to promote the ideas, concepts and benefits of beamed-energy propulsion to research community, industry and society at large. There are other privileges, some of them are listed here.  Other objectives of AIBEP are listed here.  See also Bylaws, Article 5.

Q7: What can be an Institutional associate of AIBEP?

A: Any corporate entity (for-profit and nonprofit corporation, society, library, educational institution, etc.) sharing our interests and paying membership dues.  The details can be found in Bylaws, Article 5.

Q8: What are annual dues for AIBEP Institutional membership?

A: Currently it is $1200 or more.  However, any contributions are accepted and appreciated.  The contributions can be earmarked for specific events (ISBEP sponsorship) or Programs.  Please, contact us for further details.

Q9: How AIBEP is acknowledging its Institutional members and sponsors?

A: Institutional members are listed as sponsors of ALL AIBEP-organized events.  For example, in case of ISBEP this includes listing at the conference website as well as in printed matter, such as conference flyers, Program and front matter of ISBEP Proceedings.  Supporters of specific events or Programs are listed within the media representing these events or programs.  Please, contact us for further details.

Q10: Are institutional contributions and membership dues of AIBEP tax-deductible?

A: Yes, since AIBEP is 501(c)(3) IRC Public Charity, the institutional membership fees and all other support and material contributions are 100% tax deductible.  For corporate (for profit) sponsors up to 10% of annual taxable income can be deducted.
